When gandha is applied to the midbrow region of the Deity in the picture or the Idol, due to the qualities of the substance from which it is made, its subtle scent and its specific colour, the Surya nadi of the Deity is activated. Consequently, the Principle of the Deity is attracted to the photo or the Idol of the Deity in which they get activated. Amongst the different types of gandhs applied to Deities, ashtagandha and sandalwood gandha are the most sattva predominant.

    About Rudra Abhishek Pooja

Rudra is a famous name of Lord Shiva. Rudrabhishek is the famous puja and worship performed to Shivling by giving a holy bath. This is one of the most powerful forms of worships in Hinduism and is believed to bless the devotees with prosperity and peace and remove the sins of many births.

Rudrabhishek is performed on Shivratris month after month. However, any day of Shravan (July – August) is ideally suited for Rudrabhishek. The essence of this puja is the holy chant of Sri Rudam from the Yajur Veda and giving a holy bath to Shivling with many materials including Panchmrit or fruit salad soaked in honey.

    Rudra Abhishek Preparation & Procedure

Before the beginning of Rudrabhishek elaborate preparations need to go. Asanas or seats are prepared for Lord Shiva, Mother Parvati, other gods and goddesses and Navagrahas. The blessings of the Lord are sought before commencing the puja along with worship of Ganesh for the successful completion of the puja. The devotee also chants the sankalp or the determination mentioning why the puja is performed.

The pujas performed to different gods and universal energies include Mother Earth, Ganga Mata, Ganesh, Lord Surya, Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Agni, Lord Brahma and the nine planets in this order. Once the puja and offerings are made to all these deities, the Shivling to be worshipped is placed on the altar with arrangements to collect the water flowing from the image during abhishek

Besides lamps, oil or ghee, flowers, sandal paste, vermilion, incense, camphor, special dishes, kheer, fruits, betel leaves and nuts, coconuts and others, the materials gathered for the abhishek include holy ash, fresh milk, curds, honey, rose water, panchamrit (fruit salad with honey), sugarcane juice, tender coconut water, sandal water, Gangal Jal and other fragrant substances you might like to offer.

The elaborate version of the Rudrabhishek is done after doing a homa or sacrificial offering in fire. This is done by accomplished priests. Following that the Shivling is set up facing the north direction. The devotee sits facing the east direction near the Shivling. The abhishek is done with Ganga Jal to start with and all the materials meant for abhishek are poured on the shivling one after the other washing the Shivling in between every kind of abhishek with Ganga Jal.

At the end, special dishes are offered to the lord and arati is performed. The Ganga Jal collected from the abhishek is sprinkled on the devotees and also given for drinking, which is believed to remove all the sins and diseases. Rudram or ‘Om Namashivaya’ is chanted all through during
    the Rudrabhishek.

    Shani 11000 Vedic Mantra Jaap

    9,999.00 14,999.00

Shani Mantra is one of the most efficacious ones to chant in a way averting the ill effects of the Saade Sati (7½ year) period when an individual comes under the influence of Shani or Saturn. The name Shanidev comes from the root Sanaischara meaning slow mover (the word ‘chara’ in Sanskrit means ‘movement). Astrologically, the planet of Shani or Saturn is the slowest moving one that resides for about 2½ years in a given zodiac sign. Therefore, the Saade Sati period in an individual’s life corresponds to the time taken by Saturn to move over the three zodiac signs including the one before yours and the one after yours (2½ X 3=7½). No individual can escape the adverse effects pronounced by the rule of Shani. However, the extent of adversities depends on every individual’s ‘Karma’ or the result of past deeds. When you feel dejected, depressed and demotivated due to the troubles you face during the Saade Sati period, you can resort to chanting the Shani Mantra which will do you so much good including boosting up your morale and confidence.

“Om Nilaanjana Samaabhasam, Ravi Putram Yamagrajam.
Cahaya Martanda Samhubhutam, Tama Namami Shanescharam”

    Mode of chanting Shani Mantra
Having taken bath and seated in a silent and serene place, you may contemplate on the image of Shanidev and recite this mantra. Focus on the wonderful and majestic form of Sahanidev and chant this mantra in all devotion and faith. The ideal time to say this prayer is evening. You may also have an image or photograph of Lord Hanuman in front of you and offer flowers and worship to Hanuman which will equally please Shanidev. To have the best results, Shani Mantra is to be chanted 23,000 times. You may do this chanting in a phased manner. In a hectic schedule, you can chant the Shani mantra eight times during a particular cycle. Chanting for 108 times can be done whenever it is possible. Alternatively, you may keep chanting the mantra as you travel or when you are with your work.

    Lord Shani’s Birth Story
As Lord Shani was in Chhaya’s womb she did severe penance sitting under the dazzling Sun to impress Lord Shiva. The Divine intertwined and the celestial energies nurtured the baby in her womb and Lord Shani turned out to be a great devotee of Lord Shiva. As Chhaya sat under the Sun, Lord Shani kept growing black in her womb – as he was born Lord Sun despised him being black and even rejected to accept him as his own. It is believed, it angered Lord Shani and his eyes cast upon his father, Lord Sun was charred as black too.
Many people mistake Lord Shani as cruel and easy to enrage, however, he is a very benevolent God – a strict one, though. He is generous and giving but demands discrepancy-free lifestyle and one should be just and fair in behaviour. He is God of Justice for a reason.

    SURYA JAYANTI / RATHA SAPTAMI

Ratha Saptami or Rathasapthami is a Hindu festival that falls on the seventh day (Saptami) in the bright half (Shukla Paksha) of the Hindu month Maagha. It is symbolically represented in the form of the Sun God Surya turning his Ratha (Chariot) drawn by seven horses (representing seven colours) towards the northern hemisphere, in a north-easterly direction. It also marks the birth of Surya and hence celebrated as Surya Jayanti (the Sun-god’s birthday).

Ratha Saptami is symbolic of the change of season to spring and the start of the harvesting season. For most Indian farmers, it is an auspicious beginning of the New Year. The festival is observed by all Hindus in their houses and in innumerable temples dedicated to Surya, across India.
